Recommend a book, "84,Charing Cross Road----By Helene Hanff", Chinese name is "查令十字街84号", like his name, it is a local address name in London, on which a book store locate, named Marks & Co, original from the owers's name, exactlly, a second hand book store in 1950's. The whole story began from a woman writer, Helene Hanff, who is living in New York at that time, wrote a letter to the book store for searching some book she need to complete her writings in very occasional, not long time after, a man named Frank Doel, working in the store, replied her in very polite way, he told her they have some books her mentioned in the letter, and he will search for others they dont' have at that time for her,and he also give H.H some recommendations, from the first books and money delivery(H.H likes to pay the cash directly in the envelop), they found their friendship, continuing 20 years! In this 20 years, F.D help H.H to find the second hand books, almost the classical writings, and H.H often delivery some living supply to the store, because the UK was experiencing a hard time, which living stuff are shortage at that moment, from eggs to meat, H.H also give Marks & Co a great help, and established a very good relationships between the all work staffs in the store and H.H herself.
What a pity thing is H.H have never ever see Frank in her life! Beacuse Frank is died 1968 very abruptly, although Helene's UK's friends invite her to make a visit to London many many times, but, however, Helene was never collect with plenty of money for travle to the UK, because her tooth sick, rental payment and other unlucky thing bloking her constantly, for the most reason is her writing income is very little, she can not afford for a oversea travel.
People are collecting their letters in some times later, then a book was born--named "84,Charing Cross Road", many people also seem this book as the Bible for the book lovers, and they are also travling from all over the world, to London to find the store's old site, express their yearn for the memory in their mind.
"If you happen to pass by 84 Charing Cross Road, kiss it for me! I owe it so much----Helene Hanff"
